SPOTLIGHT ON: Theresa Anderson

Discography:

Shine
Theresa Anderson

A native of Sweden where she met Anders Osborne and fell in love. The two formed a band and eventually ended up in New Orleans. For years they played the small bars and clubs of the city until they were spotted by a rep from Sony and signed. Anders was the front man and Theresa played in the background. Things did not go well and before long Theresa was leaving the man and the band. She headed for Nashville with just the clothes on her back and her dog Ruby.

It was in Nashville that she discovered her new style of violin playing with distortion and effects. After three years in Nashville she returned to her adopted home city New Orleans. Theresa's music goes from folk to pop to country to rock.

Her new ep, the self named cd, was to be a full length cd and was being recorded before Katrina. After the hurricane and finding herself and her band scattered about she decided to put what she had out as an ep. She is currently working on a full length followup to this ep.

This ep is a great cd full of wonderful music. She does a cover of Madonna's Borderline that when I first heard it I couldn't believe...I was thinking I know this song and when it hit me I was bowled over...it's nothing like Madonna. She does a cover of Lucinda William's Jackson that does the original proud. I think my favorite song on the ep is Singer of Songs. This is one of the best cds of the year. (Another cd I forgot to list in my top list of the year, I'm terrible remembering when something came out. ) This cd would have placed in my top 13 if I had remembered it, it is that good.

In concert Theresa puts on a great show. She does songs from her cds and covers of other artists. She plays guitar and banjo as well as the violin. She creates a world of sound on her violin.

Of course I'm not going to talk about anyone in these spotlights that I don't like, but Theresa is another one of those performers that I would list as one of my favorites and better than so much out there right now.
