There's a lot of good singers and groups out there that deserve to better known. There's an awful lot of talent out there that nobody gets a chance to hear. Here is my bit to try and help that matter. These 13 are musical acts that I think should be bigger than they are. I've included a link to their myspace or home page where you can check out their music if you're so inclined. 1. Will Hoge - I've talked about this singer quite a big. He's one of my favorite performers, period. He sings with a passion that is sadly lacking in many of today's bigger names. And it's nice to see someone with a real sense of the history of the music. Will Hoge 2. Shannon McNally - Another one of my favorites. Just to warn everyone there will be quite a few from New Orleans on this list. Shannon is another that is not willing to sell out to become a big name. She describes her music as North American Ghost Music. Shannon McNally 3. Theresa Anderson - Another New Orleans favorite. I just did a Spotlight On her, so there's not much more I can say here. Theresa Anderson 4. Irene Sage - Again we have a New Orleans musician. Irene sings the blues and rock as well as anything she tries her hand at. Irene Sage 5. Grayson Capps - Can you believe it? We have another one from New Orleans. Actually Grayson lives in Tennessee now, he moved there after Katrina and had decided to stay there. But his heart and music still resides in the crescent city. His Dad wrote the book that the movie "Love Song For Bobby Long" Check it out for cameos from him doing music and Theresa Anderson is there too singing. Grayson Capps 6. Neko Case - Neko is probably one of the better known of all these singers I'm writing about here. Critically she is a hit, but she still hasn't made the move to the bigger leagues. Neko's voice has been compared to that of Patsy Cline. She has a voice that has to be heard. Neko Case 7. Marah - A band from Philly. This is one of my favorite bands. I saw them live and they were great, the only drawback was that there wasn't more than fifty people in the audience. It was great for us, but I think they would probably like more people listening to them. Stephen King agrees with me, last year he named their cd from that year the best music of the year. Marah 8. Alejandro Escovedo - This man has been around forever, starting with the True Believers to singing solo now. No Depression named him the best singer of the Decade, that's how good this guy is. And this Friday I get to go see him live. Alejandro Escovedo 9. Lori McKenna - I'm hoping she gets better known thanks to Faith Hill. Three songs from Faith's last cd were written by Lori. This woman absolutely is outstanding. Lori McKenna 10. Hold Steady - Just wrote about them. A great rock and roll band singing about real people. Hold Steady 11. Susan Cowsill - If you thought we were done with the local artists you were wrong. Susan's singing career began when she was just a child with her family, The Cowsills. They were the inspiration for the Partridge Family tv show. Now please don't ask who the Partridge Family was. Susan Cowsill 12. Maria McKee - Originally the lead singer of a group called Lone Justice. People thought that this band was going to be big, but they never made it. A great singer with a great voice. Maria McKee 13. Carrie Rodriguez - She started playing fiddle with Chip Taylor and than singing with him and now has moved on to solo work. Carrie Rodriquez |

I guess I need to keep some of these in mind next time I burn a CD. Thanks for introducing us to some of these singers we might not have heard about otherwise.
Happy Thursday to you!
Great TT! I'm always looking for new music, so I'll be checking those out. I'm especially always interested in artists from back home (I'm from La. originally - not New Orleans, though, central La.).
Thanks for posting - mine is up!
Very good list! I'll have to give some of these a try! :)
Great list! I don't think I've listened to any of those, but I will have to look them and see what I think. Thanks for the suggestions!

My TT has 13 words to describe me.
I do not know any of these names which I am sure is your point of posting them! Great list to click down when time permits.
Thanks for visiting my blog. Happy Thursday!
Great list! I haven't heard of a single one of those. I'll have to check them out. Thanks for sharing.

Haven't heard of any of them but then again I'm usually out of the loop! Thanks for sharing.
Great list. Happy T13.
Interesting list--I've not heard of any of these artists. I'll keep my eyes and ears open for them! Joely
Oh, this is great! I've just filled up my Your Music queue. I love finding new artists. Thanks!
Great TT! : )
Thanks for stopping by.
Alright, well I always thought I was big into music, but I've never heard of one of those people! :0)
Happy TT and I'm up!
I just listened to Will Hoge in an interview on the radio yesterday morning, and was very impressed. He is so witty and talented, and he mentioned that he maintains his own MySpace page, by the way. Most artists don't have anything to do with their page!
Great list!
Ooh there's another new one, Corinne Bailey Rae. She's got a beautiful voice!
Thank you for stopping by, Happy Thursday to you!
The only one of these from your list that I have heard of is Lori McKenna. It's a great list - maybe you'll help them get more recognition. Thanks for visiting my TT.
I'll have to check them out sometime tonight. Thanks for sharing some new music. :-)
Lindsey,
I can attest to the fact the maintains his own myspace page. I sent him a personal message from his myspace, not really expecting an answer back and like the next day he wrote back. I was very impressed. Will Hoge cares about his fans and treats them with respect. He is a class act.
Phew, wasn't sure you page was gonna load for me. Took a long time! :)
Great list though. It was nice to read your thoughts on artists that deserve that extra recognition.
Thank you for visiting my blog!
Lori McKenna is fantastic!
the only one that sound familiar, just a little bit is the one that wrote for Hills!!
My tt are up!
They sound good. I love going to the Virgin Mega store and hitting the foriegn secion.
If you like Spanish/ Egyptian music try out Alabina. She is an amazing vocalist.

My TT this week is music too.
I've heard of Neko! I did a post similar to this a few months back :)
Great TT

An interesting list of folks. I might have to give some of them a listen.
Great list. You seem to know a lot about music.
You blog a lot in one day! I listened to Will Hoge and thought it was great! After you left today, two people left links to muscians I had to check out. There is good music everywhere!
I have, believe it or not a vinyl Lorna McKennit album! I've liked her music for years. I also remember the Cowsills which most likely gives away my age! Thanks for stopping by my blog
Great post. Thank you for including Carrie Rodriguez in that number. She has a new single ("50's French Movie") and will be touring alot this year so hopefully some people will discover her music those ways as well. She's opening up two dates for Alejandro Escovedo in February, doing SXSW in March, opening up eleven dates for Lucinda Williams in April - before she starts headlining her own tour that kicks off in Paris on April 26th. UK dates are May 1 - 15. The US dates will start May 30, run through July 28th. When you see she's gonna be in your hood, reach out to me via myspace (moodindigo247) and you can be her guest + 1 that night.
