When Do You Link?
I want to link to some more blogs in my sidebar, Blogs That I Read. But I was wondering, when do you decide to link to another blog? I don't want to link to a blog that I only visit every so often, but I would like to link to some of the blogs that I'm starting to visit more often. Especially with Thursday Thirteen I'm visiting some blogs that I haven't before and at least once a week. Do you ask the other blogger if you can link to them? Or just link them? What is the proper etiquette in these situations? I'd hate to link to someone that doesn't want to be linked.

I don't know if there is any proper way to go about it. I just put links that I like on there. I haven't kept up with it for a while though. I need to add a few more.
I don't know that there is etiquette, either. There are potential potholes either way. Some may see you requesting permission to link to them...as a request that they, in turn, link to you. You just never know.
I've always just linked to people, and let the chips fall where they may. In over six years of running a web site, I've never had requests not to link to someone.
I am also guilty of using the linkbar as a "mental scratch pad" - I may link a site that I find interesting for a month, then two or three months later when I'm doing a clean-up I may de-link them.
Here's how I do it. When I see a blog that catches my eye, I bookmark it in my favorites in my browser. Then after checking back now and then if I see they add new posts regularly, at least some of the posts interest me or make me want to leave a comment.. THEN I'll add them to my sidebar links.
Nah.. I never ask ;) I also never tell them I linked them because it sounds like I want a reciprocal link.
I was happily surprised when I saw you linked to me,I am convinced I'm writing to myself and maybe 3 other people, so thank you for that. Was looking at my Technorati stats and it showed you linked to me so I came by to thank you and check your blog out. Lots to read so I'll be back.
