So we've got a new Pope. Or I should say the catholics have a new pope since I'm not and I don't. But a pope affects more than just the catholic religion, he's as much a political leader as a religious leader. And who do they pick as the pope....the most conservative cardinal in the bunch. (speaking of cardinals and not having anything to do with this subject at all, except the name of his new band is Ryan Adams and the Cardinals, the cd was supposed to be out today but was pushed back to May 3, which isn't a good thing.) I haven't read too much about the new pope yet, but I've seen some reports that he was a Nazi in his youth, if you go down my page to the buzz headlines (at least on this day) you'll see more about this. But even if he wasn't a Nazi (and if he was that opens a whole bunch of other questions) why would they pick someone that is so conservative (I could have said backwoods), instead of someone trying to lead into the new centuries, he's going to try and push any advances back to older times, maybe like the middle ages. At least he's 78 (I think that was his age) so he won't have as long a time to make his mark as John Paul(who while he did do some good things, wasn't the saint everyone wants to make him out to be, well maybe in the catholic religion he was a saint, but he did what he could to stomp out anyone in the catholic religion that tried to change things too much.)
Whenever I hear about the pope all I can think of is a joke by Harlan Ellison (one of the greatest writers in the world if you don't know who he is!) and his punch line "I'm the Pope dammit!"

I also heard that the new Pope belong to a Nazi organization, but I also heard that he quit before he started and never attended a meeting and that Jews don't hold it against him because of it.
I'm not Catholic either, so he isn't my Pope, but it'll be interesting to see what kind of spiritual leader he will be and how he responds to the questions about his past.
