An Oldie But A Goodie!

The first concert I ever went to was Foghat at the Warehouse just off the river in New Orleans. The Warehouse was exactly what it sounds like. It was an old warehouse that they converted into a place to play live music. The ammenties were terrible, but the sound quality was awesome. ZZ Top's live album was recorded there. The Allman Brothers have said it was one of their favorite places to play. Unfortunately the Warehouse has long since been torn down.

I was thinking of Foghat today when I saw their Greatest Hits at Best Buy and had to pick it up. I have stuff by them on vinyl but nothing on cd.

Foghat was formed from members of Savoy Brown: Dave Peverett, Tony Stevens and Roger Earl. Shortly they added Rod Price on guitar. Dave was Lonesome Dave, the singer and voice behind the group. Roger Earl played drums and Tony Stevens was on bass. During the seventies they came out with songs that you heard on FM Radio all the time, "Slow Ride," "Fool For the City," and "I Just Want to Make Love to You." Their best selling album was their live album, selling over two million copies.

Like many groups from the seventies they had their ups and downs. Different members came and went, with everyone but Roger Earl pretty much quitting and coming back at different times. In 1993 producer Rick Rubin urged the original members to get back together to record. They released Return of the Boogie Men.

Unfortunately Lonesome Dave died in 2000 from cancer and Rod Price died from a head injury caused by a fall caused by a massive heart attack. The rest of the members continue to tour and record with a new version of Foghat.

Weren't they a great group. One of those groups you kind of forget about when you're naming great groups, but once you remember them it's like...duh!
