John Stewart Dies

John Stewart died today. Not that many people will recognize his name. After a high school band called Johnny and the Furies he teamed with Gil Robbins (the father of actor Tim Robbins) and formed a folk trio called The Cumberland Three. After three albums he left to join the Kingston Trio. The Kingston Trio were a fairly big group during the late fifties and early sixties. After the British Invasion folk music was not as popular and the group disbanded in 1967. John Stewart continued as a solo artist. He released many more albums and while they were critical successes he never had that popular success again. He wrote many songs that were covered by other artists, including "Daydream Believer" by the Monkees and "Gold" by Fleetwood Mac. The video is his version of "Gold" with Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham performing on it with him.
