The detective series starring Boston P.I.s Patrick Kenzie and Angela Gennaro is coming to the Big Screen. It's directed (and I think written) by Ben Affleck and stars his younger brother Casey as Patrick Kenzie and Michelle Monaghan as Angela Gennaro. This is a great series and I hope they don't screw it up. I saw a trailer and it looks pretty good except that it looks like they may down playing Angela's part in the movie. In the series they are partners and equals, I hope they don't cut her out of it. The movie also stars Morgan Freeman and Ed Harris. If this movie is done right I would love to see the rest of the series filmed.
The book is by Dennis Lehane, the author of Mystic River. Since the publication of that book Lehane hasn't returned to his series work. He's been doing other books, like Shutter Island, and working on the HBO series The Wire.

Dennis Lehane is easily one of my top ten favorite authors.
I've only driven through Boston, but I feel like I've learned it at street level because of Mr. Lehane's books.
I didn't know they were making a movie of one of them, but since the Afflecks are from the area, maybe they wanted something they felt like they could add some realism to.
Ms. Gennaro is definitely the ying to Patrick Kenzie's yang in those books, and I too hope they don't lessen her in the movie.
I love the new look of you blog. It's simple and it loads about 4X faster, literally.
I agree, I think Dennis Lehane is one of the best writers out there working today. I am eagerly waiting for this movie to come out, but I'm scared too. Movies so often ruin a great book when they bring it to the screen. I really hope they don't downplay Angela's part, but I'm thinking they will. Well, at least we'll still have the books, no matter what the movie is like.
