This post is about two dumb people. One is me and the other is a customer that was in our store today. They're actually tied together.
I was cleaning out the electrical room in our warehouse today. To try and speed things up I decided to use a leaf blower to get rid of the dust. I thought it was a good idea at the time, really I did. In the electrical room are the controls for the fire alarm for the store. I turned on the blower and was going to town. When I turned it off and turned around I noticed all the lights blinking off and on and than I heard the alarm going off. Somehow I had set the first alarm off. I think all the dust must have done it.
Ok, now that wasn't the smartest thing I admit.
But when the alarm went off the managers on the store made an announcement for everyone to evacuate the store. Which was the smart thing to do, they didn't know what was going on. Well we had a customer at the return desk wanting to return something. The alarm was going off, they had paged for everyone to leave and she was arguing with the associate to try and get them to do her return before they left. She had to be somewhere she said.
Now this lady didn't know if there was a fire or not. But she had to have her return done right there and right at that moment. Do I need to say anymore?

I gotta admit.. the leaf blower DID sound like a good idea. The lady was just plain stupid.
Read your profile and saw you liked World According.... Try Richard Russo. He wrote the novel that "Nobody's Fool," the movie was based on and three or four others. Wonderful novelist.
