New Artist: Alexa Ray Joel

The daughter of Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley. She's not signed to a major label yet, but that's only a matter of time. I'm sure having these two for parents won't hurt her chances, but even without them she should be signed. She is good.

She's released an ep of songs called Sketches that she sells at her shows and at Target. I picked it up at Target, not really knowing what to expect. I was very pleasantly surprised. She has a nice singing voice and her songs are good. She writes her own material and of course it's heavily piano driven, being who her father is. She calls her music "pop/soul/blues" and I would consider it be more pop oriented, which isn't a bad thing. She has a myspace page where you can go check out her music.

She's playing this year at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, which means I will have a chance to catch her live.

Some artists you listen to once and than put away, to maybe pull out and listen to every now and than. I've found myself listening to her over and over.
