The week of April 8-14 is National Public Safety Telecommunications Week. Now that is a big long title, but it's an important part of our community that this week is for. The men and women who man the 911 lines. This is a very stressful job, I think it's ranked like the number two job behind Air Traffic Controller. There are a lot of good people out there that answer these phones when someone calls in with an emeregency, people like Linda over at Are We There Yet?
Think about what we would do without these people manning the lines. I remember back when I was at home and my Father had an attack and my Mom came running into my room. I remember calling 911 and the calming voice on the other end, telling me that help was on the way and than trying to find out more about the situation. My mom was panicing and from her end she just heard me talking to the operator talking about what was going on, my Mom grabbed the phone out of my hand and yelled at the operator to get someone there, someone was already on the way of course. I took the phone back from my mom and the voice on the other end didn't miss a beat. She was still calm and polite as could be. It takes a lot to listen to people in every type of situation and remain calm and try to do their best to help.
So I want to thank Linda and all the others out there the do such a wonderful job.
