Going to Memphis

Beale Street, showing King’s Palace Cafe, Beal...Image via Wikipedia

I've decided to forego New Orleans Jazz Fest this year. It was a hard decision but for a lot of reasons I'm just going to have to skip it this year. I may go one or two days, but that'll be the extent of my visits there this year. Instead of taking my vacation the first week of May I'll be taking it the last week of May and going to visit my Mom.

Anyone know any good places to visit in Memphis? (Feel free to recommend some, Vinny.) The last few times I've been up there to see her we've hit Beale Street, Graceland, Sun Studios, the Zoo and I'm sure I'm forgetting a few places. I like to take her someplace when I go up there. I'm thinking of Elvis' birthplace in Tupelo, it's a little over an hour from her house. She actually doesn't live in Memphis, but about an hour or so outside in Saulsbury.

First off, I hope you end up with an evening or a few hours for us to meet and tip a beer...

Had to find Saulsbury on a map! OK, it is east of the city...yup about an hour to Tupelo.

Have you gone to the Pink Palace Museum? Stax Record Studios? Seen the ducks take their walk at the Peabody? Visited the Botanic Gardens (near the Zoo), Rock & Soul Museum?

And if you are here, Sunday, the 23rd is the Sunset Symphony. Along the river, the Memphis Symphony, along with a special guest act for a few hours of great music. You can bring in chairs and picnic baskets...last year was the 4 Tops...Not sure who it is yet this year.

Thanks for the recommendations. And I hope I can make time for a meet with you.

We saw the ducks at the Peabody. The Rock & Soul Museum when we were on Beale Street. The others haven't seen yet, I keep forgetting about the Stax Studios...I do want to see them. What is the Pink Palace Museum?

And the Sunset Symphony sounds great. I should be there Sunday, my plan right now is to drive up Friday overnight to be there for Sat morning.

Thanks again.
