More on the Flood

Today I realized something. A lot of the people here in Nashville who were flooded do not have flood insurance. And before anyone makes any snide comments about it, they didn't think they needed it. Their insurance companies didn't think they needed it. It hasn't flooded like this in more than just years, maybe centuries. Nashville is not a city known for flooding. Back home in New Orleans everyone buys flood insurance, it's a given. Here in Nashville not so much. I hope FEMA doesn't let them down and steps up to the plate here. There's going to be a lot of people here you are going to need a lot of help.

I haven't figured out how to get pictures in here yet on the Ipad, I really want to put some of the pictures from the flooding up. It'll tear your heart out.

I had no idea. It makes me re-evaluate my own insurance situation. I carry earthquake insurance but not flood, because I don't live in an area that floods.

However...

I do live near a volcano. The way they explode up here, they could cause massive flooding. This is a good wake-up call for me. It's not expensive for me to have that extra protection.

You never know if you'll need it. And a lot of times new construction can make an area more flood prone. Always safer than sorry as far as flood insurance goes.

It's been kind of a weird situation as far as that goes. On the one hand, we're hearing countless stories where people were discouraged from buying, or, as in the case of the guy whose house I've worked at some this week, were not even allowed to buy flood insurance. It's actually raising some serious issues that may end up becoming a big deal as this thing wears on.

Thank you for your kind words and for drawing attention to the situation here in Nashville and surrounding areas.

And--I've mentioned this before, I think--for whatever reason your feed doesn't update in my google reader, so my apologies for always being behind on reading your blog :).

I actually feel like I haven't talked enough about it. I really wanted to put some pics up, but haven't figured how to do that yet on here. Coming from a city that's went through this type of thing I know how important it can be to keep it front and center. If for no reason than morale, it really does help if you feel the rest ot the country is with you.
