I don't know about anyone else, but I get so tired of hearing about who is killing who, who hates who, who is blowing up who in the name of god and country and whatever. Once upon a time I used to think that we were the good guys, but we seem to put ourselves into situations that make me think otherwise. When our President basicaly is in favor of keeping people jailed without trial, toture and whatever it takes to win, than somewhere we seem to have lost our good guy merit badge. I know we want to win, that it's important for us to win, but winning at any cost is not the same as winning. If we want to be the good guys than there are some things we shouldn't do, no matter what.
Peace would be such a great concept. After the Soviet Union fell apart it seemed like there might be a chance at a somewhat lasting peace. We weren't at war with anyone. I'm not naive enough to believe that everyone in the world is going to live happily ever after just because I want it so. But look at us now. The majority of the world hates us, we act more like a bully than most bullies. Even our friends aren't that thrilled with us. And don't try to tell me it's in our best interests that we are acting like this. We went to war for Iraq for many reasons, but it wasn't to make them free.
Mimi has a site where you can go and get a peace globe. On June 6 every blogger with a globe is supposed to write about peace. If we all think enough about peace maybe we can start to try to achieve the goal. It's a nice dream.
